In his latest exclusive column this season for Crash.net, Relentless Suzuki’s Michael Laverty talks about how he needs to keep the momentum to extend his Supersport Championship lead…..
Hello everyone,
How busy has it been lately? Totally manic with back to back race weekends and travel in between.
I’ve not talked to you guys since
Brands Hatch and quite a bit has gone on since then, like
Thruxton for example!
Thruxton went according to plan really, we had a bit of an issue round there as we couldn’t use a qualifying tyre so I did my best laps on a race tyre. I was third row of the grid but within two laps of the race I was at the front of the pack. I had a problem with my number one bike on the grid so I raced my number two bike and I just didn’t feel as comfortable on it.
I couldn’t make a break so when I realised I couldn’t break the guys I just slacked the pace a bit to make sure I didn’t waste my tyre. At the end of the race I upped my pace with two laps to go, made a move to the front and took the lead. The two guys behind me, my team-mate and Tom Grant, both crashed out at the final chicane. I did my last lap pushing thinking I had two guys on my tail but as it turned out I had the race in the bag. It was quite a good one, my second win on the trot and everything was looking good at that stage so Thruxton ended up quite positive.
It was a bit of an unusual crash that my team-mate Ian Lowry had. Tom Grant just clipped the curb behind me and went down and left Ian no where to go. So he went straight over Tom’s neck or upper back, it could have been nasty but luckily they both walked away from it and neither of them missed any races as a result of it.
