First double for Rea in Scotland.

Sunday, 1st July 2007

Jonathan Rea had a good day at the office riding to a double win in wet and difficult conditions at the seventh round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill in Scotland. His double win has now put him into second place in the overall Championship standings.

Leon Haslam on the Airwaves Ducati took a well earned second place from HM Plant Honda's Ryuichi Kiyonari who finished in third.

Finishing just off the podium by 0.055secs was Tom Sykes on the Stobart Vent Axia Honda, he had to try and out drag Kiyo to the line but sadly missed out and looked very disappointed with the out come.

Off the line it was Rea who got the hole shot and was never headed for the entire race as he pulled away initially from his team-mate. He pulled a lead of 9.544secs with eight laps still to run but throttled back towards the end of the race.

Just two laps in and Gregorio Lavilla's race was over as he crashed out at the John R. Weir chicane, the crash seemed to be caused by him clipping a white line and losing grip. Leon Camier who severely damaged his one and only machine during race one had a big fight on track with Shane Byrne. The pair were side by side swapping places but Byrne was the one to come out on top eventually finishing in fifth place.

Karl Harris had been putting on a strong display and running in fifth place until he went grass tracking, his off track manoeuvre lost him three places leaving him back in eighth.

Cal Cructhlow and Tommy Hill both crashed out of the race in separate incidents on lap eight. Crutchlow crashed at the exit of Clark's while Hill went down at the John R. Weir chicane.

On lap twelve Camier made an excellent move on Harris taking him round the outside at the hairpin. While Rea romped off into the distance, Kiyo was coming under pressure from Haslam who was now just 0.077secs off the back of him. On lap nineteen he made his move and dived under Kiyo at the hairpin, he now had to gap him which he managed to do to salvage second place and a good points haul.
