Hi Guys,
I can’t quiet believe that I’ve finally done it! It is still sinking in – I am the new Maxxis British Supersport Champion – wow!
It was a good weekend all round, I put it on pole position on a race tyre so my pace was pretty quick. My plan for the weekend wasn’t to win a race; I came to
Donington aiming for a top four. I thought it would be nice to win it and win the championship but I would have been happy to take a top four position and wrap up the title that was what mattered. To get pole so easy was very nice, bit of an added bonus!
I knew if Dennis Hobbs won the race I only needed fourth place and if he didn’t win I needed sixth, so a fairly comfy margin. I’ve won at Donington in the past in Supersport and I had a good run there last year on the Superbike so it is usually a fairly good circuit for me.
I’ll have to say at the moment it just feels like another race win. I tried to get the mind set to forget about the championship this weekend, just ride my own race and the championship would sort itself out. I got to the front and went steady, I didn’t take any chances but I won the race and that got me the championship. I’m chuffed, everything has come good this season, I’m comfy on the 600 and that is working well. That is what I came back to Supersport to do this year to win the championship. It’s awesome to achieve it and I’m chuffed.
It wasn’t the most straight forward of races either! I had just started to get a bit of a gap when the Safety Car came out so I was a bit frustrated. Then I realised that there was oil down as my wheels had moved on me the lap before and I thought, “This isn’t going to be good.” They red flagged it so I was just cautious through it; I rode round it just to be safe on the restart. I lost a bit of time there but I still had enough of a gap to hold off Ian Lowry my team-mate. It played on my nerves a bit I could have done with it being wrapped up without the restart but I kept my composure and everything worked out to plan.
