Crash.net:
Can you talk us through your race day?
Colin Wright:
Race one went according to plan as far as Leon was concerned. Unfortunately, Greg had a jump start which was a little bit of over eagerness on his part. We were looking forward to this weekend and Ducati always goes well round here. Leon particularly was confident; Greg was a little bit nervous at the start but gradually got it together - very mixed day.
Then we went onto the second race and Leon was again in good shape, he made a little mistake early on which set him back little bit but again it showed pretty well the strength of the four cylinder machines now against the Ducati. It is frustrating; Leon and Greg said that after the last round at
Croft. Cadwell we always had a good time here and today hasn't been that much of an exception apart from Leon's crash. Still again it is two podiums at the end of the day so we are reasonably happy.
Crash.net:
What caused Leon's crash?
CW:
Leon….he was getting frustrated; he made a mistake trying to make a move on Tommy Hill which then put him back quite a way. He realised by looking at his lap times, he did a 1min 26.6secs lap after that and saw from the other pit boards the other guys were doing mid to high 27s so he thought, “This is still possible.” He didn't read his lap board, it said “last lap,” so he tried to make up 3secs or whatever it was, in just one lap. As Leon said it was his error but at this stage of the season he has got to try everything he can to make up the difference. Unfortunately it didn't work. He'll learn!
Crash.net:
There is a lot of speculation about the rule changes and the situation for next season regarding Ducati; do you know what is happening yet?
CW:
I can't enlighten you on what is going to happen. All I can tell you is the rules issue as far as we are concerned is not an issue until GSE Racing and Airwaves Ducati make the decision either to stay in Britain or not. If the commercial decision is that we need to stay in Britain then there will need to be some compromise either with Ducati of with BSB. No body I believe want to see Ducati out of the Championship as I believe nobody wants to see Ducati out of the Championship, so somewhere along the line if need be there will have to be some compromise. At this stage the decision hasn't been made with what we are doing. I think the rules issue is actually secondary to whether we are racing in Britain or not.
Crash.net:
Are you looking forward to getting to
Donington Park?
CW:
Yes it has been particularly good to us; Greg in particular has had some fantastic results there. As I said to our guests at our rider presentation, we will be pushing as hard all the way to the end regardless of whether we stand a chance of winning the championship or not. We are going to go out on a high that is for sure.
