Honda one two in race of attrition.

Monday, 27th August 2007

Race two of the eleventh round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park was one of the most dramatic of the season to date.

Jonathan Rea on the HM Plant Honda took the win from his team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari at Honda's home track of Cadwell Park. Completing the podium was Gregorio Lavilla on the Airwaves Ducati.

From the out set it was Rea who got the hole with Kiyo chasing him down and race one winner Leon Haslam in third place. He did push to pick up second but ran wide and relegated himself to fourth place, gifting third to Tom Sykes on the Stobart Honda.

The race was settling into a quiet battle between Rea, Kiyo and Sykes with no major incidents until lap nine when Leon Camier had a huge off over the Mountain. The Bike Animal Honda rider landed badly and crashed heavily damaging his left leg in the process. His bike was in the middle of the track so the Safety Car had to come out for a number of laps while the debris was cleared away.

The Safety Car was out for three laps and then the racing began again. Haslam ran wide at Park corner losing out on his fourth place and dropping down to ninth place. Sykes who was holding onto third place until he also ran wide at Park losing two places.

His team-mate Shane Byrne bit the dust when he crashed out of fifth place at the Mountain. He was able to walk away from the crash but landed heavily on his righ leg.

Haslam was pushing hard to make up the lost places and unfortunately over cooked it at Park corner on the last lap. His crash lost him points for his title chase and left him to get a lift back on the cooling down lap with Chris Walker on the Rizla Suzuki.

Kiyo now has a 41 point lead over Rea and Haslam is 34 points back off Rea due to his DNF.
