Preview - Oulton Park.

Wednesday, 7th September 2005

The heat is on in the chase for the Bennetts British Superbike crown. As the action returns to Oulton Park, in Cheshire, on Sunday 11 September, three riders know that nothing short of victories will suffice if they are to maintain their hopes of taking the country’s premier title.

They will each have their own game-plan for tackling the races, but at the back of each of their minds is the simple philosophy that they cannot be beaten by either of their rivals, not that they are the only riders capable of winning.

Tommy Hill goes into the action brimming with confidence after enjoying his first ever victory in the championship at Cadwell Park, and also giving the Virgin Mobile Samsung Yamaha team their first victory in 14 months, while Leon Haslam, also a winner there has shown there are no team orders at Airwaves.

Haslam tried to snatch victory in the opener from Lavilla with a daring last lap move that saw both riders run wide onto the grass, and then in the second race he held off the close attentions of the Spaniard.

Hawk Kawasaki riders Glen Richards and Dean Thomas will also be in contention, while Ben Wilson is showing good form aboard the Vivaldi Kawasaki, and he should have Scott Smart back in the team, having recovered from his shoulder injury.

Karl Harris, riding Honda, is long overdue success, while the reigning champion John Reynolds is keen to grab a victory aboard the Rizla Suzuki while the Stobart Honda riders Gary Mason and Michael Laverty should be bidding for podium finishes.

Devonian James Buckingham intends to continue his embarrassment of factory backed riders with strong performances aboard his Quay Garage Suzuki, at the same time extending his sizeable lead in the British Superbike Cup ahead of Steve Brogan and Chris Martin.

Leon Camier needs another strong ride to tighten his grip on the Metabo British Supersport title, but will be under fire from Craig Jones and Cal Crutchlow while in the British 125cc Championship Rob Guiver holds a five point lead over defending champion Christian Elkin with James Westmoreland in close contention.

Aussie Paul Young heads Lee Jackson by just three points in the Metzeler National Superstock Championship, with Adrian Coates only a further three points down, while in the Superstock Cup Peter Ward will be looking to power further clear of Paul Veazey.
