I managed to avoid the big smash in race one at Redgate but I didn’t escape that race unscathed as I crashed on the last lap just as the red flag came out but I still got my fourth place as the result was counted back to the previous lap. I got caught out with the weather going into Schwantz curve and down I went and Shakey came down right behind me. We just hit the hail stones I think, I couldn’t believe it when I stood up and saw that the red flag was already out. I knew I got my result but I was disappointed as I’d given the boys a bit of work to fix the bike for race two. Not a bad race, I think if the pace car hadn’t came out in the early stages I could have been in with a chance of fighting with Leon for third, I lost a lot of temperature in my tyres and I lost a couple of places, but I got faster as the race went on so a bit disappointed with that.
When Shakey crashed out I thought I was on for another
Silverstone incident, in other words me getting clobbered by someone else’s bike. I was sliding backwards up the track and I remember looking up and there was this bike flying through the air, I was quite happy when I realised that it wasn’t going towards me. It landed and burst into flames, it was a bit of a dramatic crash considering the race was already finished. It was just one of those days; it started to rain at that point and didn’t stop all day.
Race two was declared wet and we were given extra wet practice time. So many people crashed in the race, I just took it steady and ended up coming home with a safe seventh. I had a coming together with Sean Emmett on the last lap, I don’t think he realised I was there and when I sneaked up the inside coming into the last corner he moved over to try and stop me going through and down he went. It wasn’t really my fault but I felt bad for him as he rode a good race and down he went on the last turn so sorry about that Sean.
