You know, I’m enjoying riding on the normal roads, it’s amazing. I was talking to Niall MacKenzie and Ron Haslam just before we flew over to Ireland for Mondello, we were sat having a cup of coffee and just talking to Ron and we were discussing how many miles and laps he has done round Donington Park. I said that last year I wasn’t all that bothered about riding a road bike on a race track, but now I’ve retired and have finished I’m gagging for it. So the very next week Niall MacKenzie gave me a ring and said ‘We’re down at
Donington, we are taking the GSX-R out, and you can come and borrow it’. I was straight down there and we were flying around all afternoon on the GSX-R 1000, it was great.
It was one of Niall MacKenzie’s track days and there were a couple of racers out there and I was quite hacked off because two or three them passed me and I nearly dug in to see what I could do about it. But then I had a reality check, I’m finished now and I’m here for a bit of fun and not to show people how good I am, or how good I was!!
As you know by now, I like my flying as well as my bikes and I’ve been out in my plane again. I flew my little PA38 down to RAF Lyneman with a friend of mine. We had such a ball, we landed at this massive airfield and I taxied up and parked along side a big Hercules - I’ve got a photo to prove it! The guys from RAF Lyneman where there and a load of bikers too, so we had a few photographs and then I went and had a couple of hours in the flight simulator of the Hercules. They looked after us really well, so a big thank you to the guys at RAF Lyneman for that.
I just want to kick back and relax at the moment as I’ve been flat out for the last month or so, but I’m just mad on flying and I just want to do a bit of that and spend a bit of time with the family. My little son Ben is desperate to get out on his bike so I’ll have to do something about it!
Catch you soon.
