It was a day of mixed results for Airwaves Ducati at Cadwell Park. Leon Haslam pulled off his second win of the season in race one but crashed out of race two. Gregorio Lavilla had followed up a seventh place in race one with a third in the second race.
In an action packed race one Haslam was up to third by the end of the first lap; he pushed hard take the lead on lap ten and then set about extending his lead to take the chequered flag.
Lavilla was running in sixth at the end of lap one however following a decision that he had committed a jump start he was penalised 20 seconds. Although he crossed the line in fourth on corrected time he was seventh.
In race two Haslam was pushing for third place following the introduction of a safety car mid way through the race when he ran wide and dropped to ninth position. He had fought his way back up to fourth going into the final lap but slipped off and failed to finish. Lavilla on the other hand moved up to third taking his first podium finish since Mondello Park.
“I am disappointed with the first race; the jump start was a mistake and it cost me a better finishing position. I wanted to make up for it in race two and I was aiming for a podium finish,” said Lavilla, “I was comfortable in third place but I knew I had a rider chasing me so I couldn't concentrate on closing the gap on Kiyonari in second place. I was happy with third, it is my first podium for a while and I will be looking to repeat it in the final two rounds.”
Haslam was delighted with his win, “I am so pleased to have won here again, it is a circuit I enjoy racing at and I was confident for a good performance so I am over the moon.” However he wasn't just so happy with race two.
