Stuart Easton says he is now '90 per cent' recovered from his heel-breaking Magny-Cours smash earlier in the year, and raring to get back on-track again in 2008 – though he is remaining tight-lipped as to where and with whom that might be.
The Scot saw his season go crashing off the rails when he came a cropper from his Kawasaki France Endurance ZX-10R during a two-day test for the Kawasaki France Endurance team in wet conditions at the French circuit back in August as part of a warm-up ahead of the Bol d'Or, a race he thereafter didn't contest. The accident brought his British Supersport campaign with Isilon MSS Discovery Kawasaki to a shuddering halt, just as his favourite tracks on the calendar were coming into view…
“To cut a long story short I ripped my heel off,” Easton told
Crash.net Radio. “When I was at the side of the road I couldn't move my foot – the tendon was loose because the heel was off.
“I'm not too sure [how long the operation was] – I was sleeping! My heel has now got three pins, a big plate and several screws in it as well!”
Though it wrecked his season and left the 23-year-old an unrepresentative tenth in the final riders' standings, Easton is clearly hopeful of better things in 2008.
“I'm getting there now,” he affirmed. “It's been a long 13 weeks since my operation, which is a hell of a long time, but its 90 per cent there.
“Everything has gone perfectly to schedule. I'll definitely make a full, 100 per cent recovery – the only thing is I'll have a bit of metal work in there.
“It was good to go to the NEC Bike Show last week, visit the Kawasaki stand and see a lot of familiar faces again. The show never fails to impress me – it's massive.
“I'm looking forward to next year. There's nothing confirmed yet, but I think there should be something happening fairly shortly.”
