Thanks to his fall in race one, Kiyo was absolutely on it in race two getting out of shape all over the place. Haslam and Sykes squared up to one another on the last lap with Sykes trying to take him at Goddards and it was a real drag to the line with Haslam beating Sykes by just 0.056secs. This superb double win put Haslam back into contention for the title fight. The points now stood at Kiyo 404, Rea 367 and Haslam on 363.
The fight was going to go to the wire at the
Brands Hatch Indy circuit where it was Kiyo's title to lose and everyone else's to gain. Lavilla stormed to pole with the fastest two wheeled lap of the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, he was joined by Sykes then Rea, with Byrne taking up the last place on the front row.
Kiyo needed to finish in the top five to clinch the title and he did just that coming home in third place to secure his number one plate. Lavilla took the win from Rea leaving second place in the championship still wide open. Race two win went to Lavilla, giving him at least a fairy tale ending to his difficult season.
Byrne ran out of luck at Paddock Hill on lap thirteen when he lost the rear and slid off at high speed into the gravel. This gifted Crutchlow third place and his first podium of the year. Kiyo had to settle for fourth place, after the race he admitted that he had relaxed a little bit too much! With Rea on the podium twice he secured second place in the championship giving HM Plant Honda the top two spots.
2008 will see a lot of changes to the British Superbike Championship with Kiyonari, Rea and Lavilla heading to the world championships and being replaced by up and coming riders. Another big change will be the Pirelli control tyre, introduced to help level the field, which should also allow the return of BSB wild-cards at World Superbike events.
