Fan favourite Niall Mackenzie will be a guest rider for one of the 1125Rs at four key events across the season, starting with the opening round at
Brands Hatch on 4-6 April. The former British Superbike champion will provide pillion rides for celebrities and competition winners at Cadwell Park,
Donington Park and both Brands Hatch race days.
Another new initiative to coincide with the sponsorship announcement will enable Bennetts to further extend its support of motorcycle racing at all levels. The Grass Roots referral scheme offers the potential for all motorcycle racers to increase their annual budget by encouraging friends, family and supporters to take out insurance policies with Bennetts via their own website or social networking pages.
The official television broadcast partners and coverage for the BSB will be announced today [Wednesday 5th March], following some confusion as to where the series will wind up this season.
Internet sources reported last week that
ITV would be dropping its coverage, leaving the BSB to rely on satellite outlets such as
Eurosport only. However, contrary reports claimed that
Sky Sports would be dropping its commitment to a highlights package because ITV was moving its coverage to its digital-only
ITV4 channel, where it would provide increased coverage of other races on the weekend's running order.
While parent company BSkyB has confirmed that its channel would no longer be involved, ITV has yet to respond to enquiries from
Crash.net.
