While there was bitter disappointment for everyone involved in the weekend's British Superbike meeting at
Brands Hatch as snow forced the cancellation of round one, there were varying degrees of frustration up and down the pit-lane as riders and teams saw promising qualifying performances squandered.
The Relentless Suzuki team was among those thwarted by the conditions, but remains positive that good results can still be achieved at the rescheduled event. Up until the snow's arrival on Sunday morning, the Relentless trio of Michael Laverty, Ian Lowry and Cameron Donald had been building themselves into strong positions in their respective championships, with Laverty, on his return to the Superbike class, a more than respectable tenth on the grid.
"Obviously, we are bitterly disappointed with the day being abandoned after such a promising start to the weekend, but I am also philosophical after gaining more track time with all our new machinery," team boss Philip Neill commented, "The atmosphere within the team has been great all weekend and we've brought everyone home in one piece. Sunday's announcement didn't suit anyone in the paddock, but we will take positives from what we've learnt and move on now to
Thruxton for 'round two'."
Tom Tunstall and the Hardinge Ice Valley Motorsport Team were equally ready and raring to kick-start their 2008 campaign, showing the sort of pace which secured him 15 podiums and third place in his debut season. Having qualified fourth, and only 0.4secs from pole, despite a few technical issues, Tunstall was disappointed not to race.
