Team Trimite Brookspeed team chief Martin Braybrook has admitted that the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike Championship season will be a learning curve for his team as it embarks of its first year of motorcycle competition.
The team, which is primarily know for its exploits in the British GT Championship, will run a single bike in the Daily Star Cup for youngster Leon Morris having initially planned to run in British Superstock – with Morris getting his first taste of BSB competition in this weekend's 'season opener' at
Thruxton.
The programme itself has come together in a relatively short space of time after a chance discussion planted the idea into Braybrook's head and he admitted that he was confident that the team can enjoy a solid debut campaign in 2008.
"Well I didn't expect to be in British Superbikes I have to say," he said. "This all kicked off about eight weeks ago with me actually buying a bike for myself from the guys at Moto Rapido in Winchester.
"I was talking to them about buying a Ducati 848 and we started talking about racing. I told them that we did the GTs and between the shop and myself, we thought it would be a good idea to go racing Superstocks, which is a reasonable first step forwards as a starter for someone going into bike racing for the first time.
"The bike we decided to go with was the Ducati 1098R, which it turned out wasn't able to race in that series. We had to make a move very quickly and ended up going into the Cup class of the British Superbikes, which we're hoping we can do a good job in."
With a number of key people within the Brookspeed operation having previous experience with bikes, a move into the BSB has emerged as a logical step for the team and Braybrook admitted that 2008 will be part of a long-term bike programme targeting honours in the coming seasons.
