"Once Shakey passed me, I tried some different lines to deal with the chattering and managed to pull Cal back in and unfortunately, he went down. It was a bit of a strange result to take second with a couple of people crashing but the lap times were there and the pace was there. At the end of the day, the Hydrex Bike Animal Honda team has a podium and I have my first podium in BSB, so I'm happy."
However, despite the understandable delight within the team, Ellison admitted that it was important not to get too carried away as the series now heads back to
Brands Hatch for the rescheduled season opener, with the Cumbrian admitting that he wanted to ensure that the podium finish wasn't just a flash in the pan.
"For us, it's fantastic," he continued. "Shaun Muir, the team boss, looks ecstatic and to see the look and excitement on everyone's face when you come in is so rewarding as I know how hard they have worked over the winter. Testing over the winter was tough and we were waiting for some parts which meant we missed valuable testing time. We have done the best we can and it has paid off today so it's all credit to the team for putting such a good bike together.
"[However], it's way too early to celebrate yet. We have a podium but it is a long season and we need to be doing this every weekend. I don't want it to be a one off and finish on the podium once and that be it. I want to build on this result and start fighting for the championship. We are quite far behind on the points but there is no reason why we can't fight with the top guys every week.
"We will start on the back foot at Brands Hatch as we qualified 18th, but we have two practice sessions to work on the bike and build on what we have now to make sure we are more competitive."
