Saturday pm - Kennaugh Outsprints Richards in British Supersport
Hudson Kennaugh, the 27-year-old South African, put a gap of 0.728 seconds between his Raceways Yamaha R6 and the 675cc MAP Embassy Triumph of his main rival Glen Richards in the final practice session of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport championship at
Brands Hatch.
Kennaugh, had already secured pole position for tomorrow's 18-lap race at April's snowed-off Brands meeting. But he wanted to lay down a clear marker between himself and Kennaugh after the Australian beat him in a last-corner tussle at the previous round at
Oulton Park.
Kennaugh lapped the 2.3-mile track in 1m 29.501s, with Richards recording a 1m 30.229s best.
Richards leads the championship with 45 points on the British triple, from Steve Brogan on the HM Plant Honda on 36 points, and Kennaugh in third place on 33. But Brogan's chances were damaged when he crashed after only six laps in this second practice period, which left him eighth fastest in the 25-minute session, a mighty 1.643 seconds slower than Kennaugh.
Richards' April qualifying time means that he will line up beside Kennaugh on the race grid, with John Mcguinness third fastest on his Padgetts Honda and Craig Fitzpatrick completing the front row on his BLDS Yamaha.
Saturday pm - Byrne Coasts to Fastest in Practice
Shane Byrne once again knocked back his younger challengers to set fastest lap on his Airwaves Ducati in the second of the two practice sessions at Brands Hatch today for the two Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
With seven minutes remaining in the 30-minute session, Byrne's team-mate Leon Camier went fastest on the 2.3-mile grand prix circuit, but he lasted for less than four minutes before the 31-year-old Byrne again topped the chart. The session closed with Byrne fastest with a lap in 1m 27.265s, just 0.121 ahead of Camier. The HM Plant Honda riders Leon Haslam and Cal Crutchlow finished third and fourth fastest.
