Sykes, who scored his first podium of the year, said: "It's fantastic to finally pay the team back with a podium. Now it's about trying to get my championship back on track."
Leon Haslam's difficult season continues. He started badly in ninth place, rode strongly, but could only climb to fourth position on his HM Plant Honda, ahead of Leon Camier (Airwaves Ducati).
The result saw Crutchlow jump back to second place in the championship, with 71 points to Byrne's 120. Camier holds third place with 67 points, and former
MotoGP rider James Ellison, who finished sixth in the race, now holds fourth place in the table on the Hydrex Bike Animal Honda.
Sunday pm - Stephanie, 16, Wins an Incredible Four Races at Brands
Stephanie Waddelow, a 16-year-old girl previously unknown outside club racing circles, today became the talk of this British Superbike meeting when she won her fourth MRO 125 Superteens race of the weekend at
Brands Hatch.
When she climbed down from the podium, Stephanie said: "I want to get to world level, and MotoGP is everyone's dream. I don't think it would be difficult for a woman to compete against men there: it's how hard you train."
Stephanie's achievements became the talk of this paddock full of professional riders in the BSB circus as she racked up three wins on her 125cc Aprilia - limited to 30bhp in this class - in Saturday's races.
Could she complete an incredible weekend and make it four out of four today in front of a huge crowd gathered to see Shane Byrne and the other Superbike heroes do battle?
Schoolgirl Stephanie, who lives in Ely, Cambridgeshire, left no doubt about it. She started from pole, quickly took the lead, and made no mistakes in the six-lap sprint.
What has she got that the boys haven't? "Corner speed is a lot of it in this class, and just keeping your concentration for the whole of the race," she said.
