With the forthcoming Salt Late City round of the world championship for WSBK only, the World Supersport teams aren't due back on track until Germany on June 15.
As such, defending world champion's Ten Kate will use the free time to take on the British championship regulars - but the main aim will be to try and gain a set-up advantage for the European round of the WSS series, at
Donington Park on September 7.
"It's really good for me and Andrew to get the chance to test at Donington in the BSB round," said Rea, who finished second in the 2007 British Superbike championship and last raced in BSS during 2004.
"For me the priority is to make the bike strong for our race there in September," confirmed the WSS rookie. "We can get some good information about the set-up and be on the pace. I hear Craig Jones will also be riding the BSB round, we can push the World Championship pace.
"I am very happy that the team has decided to do this and give us the chance. It was an idea on Friday morning and in the afternoon it was all done and organised. It's good to feel the team playing out all the stocks to get behind Andrew and me for the Donington event.
"It will be nice to race at home again in front of all my old fans and my old rivals. I'm really looking forward to it," added the Ulsterman.
Experienced team-mate Pitt, a former
MotoGP rider, WSBK winner and WSS champion, also claims his aim for the event is simply to get a good set-up.
"It's a chance for us to get some testing in as the WSS doesn't go to the US round so we won't be on the bike for a while," said the Australian. "I'm just trying to treat the BSB event as a test. I want to find a good setting for the bike and try and win the WSS race here in September."
Pitt is currently fourth in the 2008 WSS standings, despite two wins from five starts, with Rea in seventh position having taken a best finish of second.
