Tom Sykes has set his sights on going one better with a win in the upcoming round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at
Donington Park after securing his best result of the season last time out at
Brands Hatch.
Battling his way up to second place at the finish from fifth on his Rizla Suzuki, it was also Sykes' first podium of the season,
As such, confidence is high that Sykes can top that performance around the Derbyshire Circuit having scored a pole position and a brace of second places in 2007. Indeed, team manager Jack Valentine has confidence in both the abilities of Sykes and the GSX-R1000s.
“Donington Park should be a good circuit for Rizla Suzuki; it will suit our GSX-R1000s. Tom loves racing at Donington and has done extremely well there in the past. He secured pole position and two second places last year so hopefully with his Rizla Suzuki he will claim his first British Superbike win.”
Team-mate Atsushi Watanabe, meanwhile, will be out to continue his steady progress through the ranks having qualified inside the top ten at Brands Hatch.
“As for Atsu he has some experience on this track now and he likes it,” Valentine continued. “I hope he is able to settle into the circuit early in the weekend and pull in the results we know he is capable of. He has spent a lot of time with his team and has got his Rizla Suzuki working how he wants it. I think we have a good weekend ahead of us.”
