The Vent Axia VK World Superbike team have reacted to speculation that Gregorio Lavilla could be heading back to the British championship by labelling the rumours as 'unsubstantiated'.
Lavilla's return to the WSBK arena, his first since 2003, has not gone entirely smoothly with regular points finishes disguising the fact that his best result so far this season has been a pair of seventh places at Valencia and Assen.
As such, the official British Superbike website has raised speculation of a shock return to the championship he won in 2005, possibly aboard the Rizla Suzuki in place of the struggling Atsushi Watanabe.
However, the Paul Bird-run team has scotched the claims by telling
Crash.net that they are all "unsubstantiated" and that "Lavilla remains an integral part of the team".
Lavilla has failed to score in just one of the twelve rounds so far this season on the Honda CBR1000, results that ensure he remains 12th in the overall standings and as the leading 'true' privateer.
