Tom Sykes was in a buoyant mood after topping free practice at
Mallory Park, even if he admits he was happier just to get some extra mileage than he was about being fastest.
With damp conditions in the second session of the day causing many riders – including the Airwaves Ducatis – to stay put in the garage, Sykes took advantage of some additional wet weather testing.
An attempt to improve on the form of
Snetterton, where Sykes didn't feel comfortable with the Rizla Suzuki in the trewcherous conditions, Sykes admits he is feeling a lot more confident with the settings now.
“It was a bit of an oddball session really,” he told
Crash.net Radio. “We just made the most of it and did some map testing on the Rizla Suzuki and understand more about how the power is delivered to the rear tyre. It was a very useful session, but being quickest doesn't really mean anything.
“We haven't been too competitive in the wet. We made some big changes at the start of the session and straight away I was feeling more comfortable, so I am pleased as a whole.
“It was good to get out. It was good to see what the slicks could offer in damp conditions, so I'd like to think it will help us if it is like this for the remainder of the weekend.”
