James Ellison was left to rue a decision to concentrate on his bike's traction control system after being unable to fulfil potential at the latest Bennetts British Superbike round at
Mallory Park.
Ellison was one of the day's stars when he powered to a fifth place finish in the first race from a lowly starting position on 15th, a result that keeps him in touch with the battle for a top five spot in the rider standings.
However, the Hydrex Bike Animal Honda rider was frustrated to only finish 11th in the second race, not least because his decision to use an intermediate front and slick rear tyre would ultimate prove to be the right one.
Blaming his starting position for not making enough progress, Ellison admits he made a wrong call when choosing to spend the practice sessions testing his bike's traction control system
"The first race was really good but I would have rather had a good race two. In the second race I should have been higher up as I made the right decision on the tyres but I was too far down the grid so I'm just really frustrated. It took me a while to get some heat into the tyre and then I kept coming up behind other riders and kept getting held up.
“I think testing the traction control put us in a bad position but it was my decision, so it's my fault. I'm disappointed for the guys in the team as well, but I'm hoping to go well at
Oulton Park and hopefully go one better and get a win."
