The former World Superbike Championship ace was also openly enthusiastic about Goodwood, what he acknowledged was a rare weekend off, and one that allowed him to relax and indulge his interest both for the sport from yesteryear – and for his new-found hobby…
“It was good,” he related. “It's always a great event, and obviously you get to ride up the hill and see all these other manufacturers and cars and old bikes. It's a bit of a parade lap for us, but it's always a bit of good fun all the same.
“It was good to see the bikes of the legends – guys like Mick Doohan and [Mike] Hailwood and [Giacomo] Agostini all there – it's just a really fantastic event.
“Obviously in the biking industry, you're very much stuck to your sport and you don't really get to see other events. I got to spend a lot of time with Dougie Lampkin (record-breaking international trials rider).
“I've just started trialling myself, so obviously that was good fun to have a bit of social time with him. They're all crazy, those boys! For me, it was a great event just to see all the car drivers too, like [Lewis] Hamilton and [Jenson] Button – all the guys who are doing us proud for England as well.”
