Cal Crutchlow is chasing a double win at
Oulton Park to both aid his fading title hopes and also make amends for a disastrous result last time he raced at the Cheshire circuit.
Matching the pole position he achieved at the same circuit earlier in the season, Crutchlow led each race on that occasion but suffered a fall both times, the latter smash seeing him leave on a stretcher after dislocating his ankle.
Nonetheless, the HM Plant Honda rider was putting that all behind him in qualifying for the seventh round of the season as he powered to a comfortable three tenth advantage over Shane Byrne.
Causing some furrowed brows for his rivals as they pondered his useful margin, Crutchlow believes he could have gone even quicker had he not been caught out by traffic on his best lap.
I actually got baulked on my fastest lap by at least three tenths of a second, he told
Crash.net Radio, so I just had to go around outside of someone at Druids.
It was one of those sessions where it was a bit up and down for everybody. You have to fast and flowing round this circuit because it has a bit of everything here and Oulton Park is one of those circuits where if you stay smooth and hit your apex then you will always go fast.
Indeed, Crutchlow's struggles at Oulton Park back in May means he is particularly determined to banish that to a distant memory
I want to make amends for what happened here last time because I left here on a stretcher with a dislocated ankle. I had a sixth in the first race after a crash and then I did it again in the second race. A double win would be nice though and it will go a long way to make amends.
I am confident. I have been fastest in wet and dry sessions, so lets bring on tomorrow!
