John Laverty can wrap up the Bennetts British Superbike Daily Star Cup during the next round at
Croft after an impressive win and second place finish at Cadwell Park.
The North West Ducati rider was a doubt for the latest round after picking up a broken rib in a crash during free practice at
Knockhill, but despite suffering from considerable pain, he raced on regardless.
Although not as dominant as usual, Laverty was still a force to be reckoned with over the weekend and while he trailed Gary Mason by some margin in the first race, his rival's fall in the second meant he was left with little competition for victory.
The win means he has extended his championship lead over Martin Jessopp to 111, ensuring that if his margin by the end of the next round at Croft is still in three figures, he will be crowned champion.
For the moment though, Laverty is more concerned about the fact that three days of hard competition have left him feeling somewhat worse for wear.
"I'm feeling very second hand after riding in those two races today and it's totally taken it out of me. I knew I had to ride to try and keep the points advantage in the Cup series and I wanted to just do the best I could.
“I dug deep and worked hard to keep on going and even though I'm sore I'm really happy with the way things went today despite my injuries. I'd like to thank all the Buildbase team for working so hard over the weekend to help me and once again the CJ Physios in the medical centre."
