Simon Andrews equalled his best Bennetts British Superbike result of the season at Silverstone after a fighting ride to fifth place.

Matching his previous best from Oulton Park, Andrews arguably had to work harder for this result having qualified down in 13th position.

Nonetheless, with several riders hitting problems ahead of him, Andrews steadily worked his way up the order, dicing with Gary Mason for several laps before prevailing to record a top five finish.

A strong result for a rider that is still ailing from leg injuries sustained in a crash two months ago, the Lloyds Jentin Yamaha rider, who went on to finish eighth in the second race too, admits a performance like that is a big confidence boost.

“I am happy with that,” he told Crash.net. “We were quite fortunate that some guys came off in front, but sometimes you just have to be there. We didn't have a good qualifying or a good start, but it turned out to be a bit of luck.

“It has boosted my confidence a lot. We have struggled with set-up and we're still working on it, so a result like that means the team is upbeat and it brings everybody along. We didn't do so well in the last couple of rounds, so it is nice to have that kind of result.”
