Martyn Bell: Consistency is key.

Wednesday, 27th September 2006

In his latest column for Crash.net, Martyn Bell looks back over the penultimate round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch, and talks about his crusade to take the BTCC to Cadwell Park.

We started on our plan but we aren’t going round with a petition to take to Alan Gow to take us there, we are going to use thumb screws and racks. We do it differently up North!

It would be great to have the BTCC at Cadwell and the British Superbikes are already a huge success. Can you imagine 25 touring cars going up the Mountain and through Hall Bends – it would be absolutely fantastic. There is a big catchment area for fans to come and watch and I know I have a lot of followers who would come and cheer us on. I’m an ex-instructor there so it would certainly be one for me. I’d hope that if the BTCC went there, that I’d be able to kick some arse!

Back to this season though and the final round at Silverstone. It’s a circuit that has been good to me and I’ve won race there in the past. I like the circuit and we have had some strong races there over the years. We feel we have enough data from here to dial in to Silverstone and let’s just go there and give it what we can.

I think it is a circuit that will suit the car with its straights and some fast corners and we can dial out understeer round Luffield - I’m really looking forward to it, I have a lot of sponsors there and some potential new sponsors. We have had a tough time this year and people don’t realise how fast you can go when you have the budget to mend it. We have had to hold back quite a bit as we haven’t had the budget we thought we had at the start of the year. I’ve got a drawer so full of promises that I can’t get anymore in and we have struggled for budget a bit this year but next year – if what we have been promised comes to fruition – we will have a very strong package.
