While the top ten finish didn’t arrive for us on race day, it was good as we are on the back of the midfield guys now. In the opening race we left the pack we had been running with behind by 17 seconds and the car felt good and strong. I got spun out in the second race, it was a bit like wacky races and I hope that Mike Jordan recovers quickly from what happened to him and he is back next year.
I fluffed the start twice which I couldn’t believe, but then in the third race I got a good start and held onto the pack until the Safety Car came out. I hung onto the pack again when we went racing, but when the Safety Car came out again, I must have lost some temperature in the tyres because I got on the oil, clobbered the kerb and spun at Becketts. That was my mistake and a pilot error, no-one touched me, and I flat spotted two tyres as a result.
I brought the car home on fifty pence pieces but it is good that we could run with the next batch of people we wanted to run with. The BMW was on the tail of Jason Hughes and Dave Pinkney and I’m pleased with that. It’s also remarkable that I think this is the only car on the whole grid that has finished the season with the same engine that it started with, and I think that that is a credit to
BMW.
This is a very, very hard school to be a member of and one day we hope to be amongst the front-runners. However the sponsors are pleased with how our first season has gone, we’ve had a really tight ship this year and had some knocks with sponsorship that didn’t go out way, but it’s looking promising for next year. People are coming to us and want to be associated with us, we are a friendly team and if anyone out there wants to give us a helping hand then please come along! We have had a few knocks but we are getting our bills paid and are getting ready for next year.
