As for my aims for the season ahead? Well, there are a lot of cars on the grid for a start and I don’t think the BTCC has had this many cars at the start of the year for a long time. At
Brands Hatch, a short circuit with a lot of cars, if we can have a good qualifying session and come out of the three races unscathed with some points then I’ll be more than happy with that. We need to do a shakedown test at some point before the first race as I haven’t sat in the car yet and it’s a front-wheel drive car which I’ll need to get used to as I haven’t driven a front-wheel drive car. I have some learning to do there which hopefully won’t take long and I’m just looking forward to it.
Of course I’m not the only person driving the Toledo this season, with Motorbase entering two cars for Matt Allison and Gareth Howell. Gareth has said he feels he is a dark horse, but to be honest with you, I don’t see it like that, as he has proven himself and won races before. People know what he is capable of doing, David Bartrum can do a great job with what he is doing and he has a good car. He also has front-wheel drive experience and has also raced with the best team in the championship.
I might be seen as more of a dark horse than Gareth because of the car that I’m in, no-one knows how we are going to go and we haven’t done any testing so even I don’t know how competitive it will be yet. But on paper, I think we can hopefully be the dark horse.
Until next time,
Adam
