My car is due to be out on track any day and they aren’t far from being completed - we are waiting for a few little bits and bobs to finish them off. Because we’ve been quite late getting our cars together, I think the loan car has become an integral part of the build up to the new season and has been perfect for what we wanted – which was to allow us to learn about the
BMW package. Although that car is last years machine, the 2007 package isn’t drastically different and is just an upgrade on that shell, so we should be fine once we get going. Having the car has also been handy as it has effectively meant that there has been a template sitting there while we have been building out own cars, so it has worked well for the guys back at base.
Media day saw me on the pit lane with the rest of the grid – or most of the grid – but it think it will be when we get to
Brands Hatch for the first round that it will really sink in that I am a British Touring Car driver. The first time I drove the car, it was a big shock and reality hit me and I thought ‘Wow, I’m in a touring car and I’m doing this for the year’. It was a similar feeling at Rockingham, but lining up on the grid for race one at Brands and waiting for the lights to go green is when I’ll know I’ve made it.
As for the season ahead? Well I’ve always been confident in the abilities of the car, it is a proven package and has done well in the WTCC, so we knew we would have a strong package. Now we just have to show what we can do with our own cars when the season gets underway.
See you at Brands
