In race one I got a blinding start, but the car was under steering so badly from the middle of the race that I couldn’t do anything with it. I flat spotted two front tyres trying to catch Erkut but it was like driving on 50 pence pieces and it was tough. But from 21st to 14th was okay I suppose.
In the second race, from 14th on the grid I finished twelfth but I was unlucky again as John George gave me a smack in the side through the
Jim Clark Esses and I finished up in the corn. I managed to come back out of the field and got one of the biggest cheers of the day which was quite amusing, but I checked the car over and managed to come home in twelfth. I feel I was robbed there but John came over and apologised and said he was sorry.
In the final race I decided not to spoil Matt Neal’s start so I thought I would go down the pit wall and leave the centre of the track free as there is no point holding up these guys. As I’ve said before, I can learn more from the back of them then they can learn from the back of me! I decided to run my own race down the pit wall so was on the outside into Clervaux and I got a tap from the back. I straightened the wheel thinking I would run over the gravel, but it did its job and the car dug in, which summed the weekend up really.
But I wasn’t feeling down as we were running well so it was just a case of getting ready for Oulton – and I knew that if I could qualify in the same place I did last year then it would do nicely!
