Colin was a very quiet person to have as a team-mate. He takes everything in his stride and is always chilled out. Nothing ever gets to him and he never really lets on what is going on inside. It was hard to take anything from him directly, but he helped me along all the time. If ever I was struggling with the car, he was always there to sit down with and have a chat to see what he thought, and we ended up working together quite well during the year to secure the Independents’ team title.
From a personal point of view, there were a number of highlights for me going through the season. The second place finish at Rockingham was great moment for me as I have wanted to be in a touring car since I was knee high and to be there on the podium in just my fifth race was absolutely fantastic. But then the RAC event at
Snetterton was also fantastic and it was an unbelievable feeling to win there in front of the home crowd - I couldn’t have picked a better time to take my first win! The feeling crossing the line, and the pictures I have from it, are things that I will never forget.
Anyone who says they aren’t wishing the laps away when they are in the position I was in that day is lying! When you have led like that for the whole race and the pressure has been on you, you are crossing the line at the end of every lap and looking at the pit-board thinking 'I’m sure there was one less than that - are they lying?!' All the time, you want it to end but at the same time you are really enjoying it. I remember focusing on my mirrors and on the guys behind and there was a lot of pressure on me, so it was a case of keeping my eye on the competition. When I got out of the car, I was really drained as it was a tough race, but it is one that I will always remember and look back on.
