The intention for 2008 was to have a two-car team and a deal nearly came round to have a second car but it didn’t quite work out. For any team, no matter what you are racing, it is good to have a second car as when you go out for a practice session, you are effectively getting two sessions for the price of one as one car do have a certain set-up and one can have another. In the case of the
Ferrari team [CR Scuderia], they have more of an advantage as they have three cars. On that side of things, we may struggle but I think we have the knowledge and know-how within the team to overcome those things.
Last year we had some quick peddlers in the car and it always good to have a quick team-mate. However, at the same time you don’t want another Grade A driver as you will get a penalty if there are two of you in the car. Piers is a good guy and has a lot of experience and if we can be consistent then there is no reason why we can’t win races. As for Rachael coming onboard for the three races I can’t do because of the BTCC, it will be a learning curve but the testing we have planned will be for them to get as much knowledge and as many miles as they can.
It will be a challenging season ahead for sure. CR Scuderia has a lot of experience within its team and the knowledge they have will be an advantage and they will be competitive. They will be as keen as anyone for the crown, but there are other teams down the paddock which have experience and have good drivers with them. We are a single-car team which will always be a disadvantage compared to a two-car team but we just have to get on and not think about any negatives.
We have to go into the season with a positive attitude, we know we can get the job done and it’s just a case of going out there and doing it.
Until next time,
Adam
