Eurotech: Something different.

Wednesday, 9th April 2008

In the latest column for Team Eurotech/John Guest Racing, Mike Jordan tries his hand at something different and looks back at the opening rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch.

I don’t know how much more rallying I’ll do during the year, but my wife hopes I don’t do any as she hates me doing it as she thinks its so bloody dangerous! It’s a bit bad for her really as she has been with me for 30 years racing and for most of the time there has been no big deals. Then in the last few years, I’ve had the two big touring car accidents and the accident on Epynt; there has only been the odd bump here and there before that!

I can only fit any rallying in around what we have on work wise and with the BTCC but there are a few free weekends. One of the free ones is the Manx I think, and that is an event I’ve always wanted to do. It’s an event which is probably better for me with it being on tarmac rather than gravel, so hopefully I might do that.

Obviously if you were at Brands Hatch you’ll have seen a new addition to both my car and Andrew’s, all thanks to a certain Mr Gow.

I think it was quite amusing as he went up to Andy and said 'Can you take your name off the rear quarter windows?'. I told Andy he must have misheard, but then Alan came up to me and said we had to take them off as he had something else to go on. He came down with stickers himself and put 'Old Man' and 'Young Man' on. He also said that that was the polite version and it would get worse if I annoyed him during the year. I think the next one will be 'Old Git' or something similar! Alan is all about putting on a show for the fans so I don’t mind. It works in V8 Supercars, it works very successfully in NASCAR, and you can’t take yourself too seriously all the time.
