I was happy with how the actual weekend went at
Brands Hatch although it was frustrating not to get a podium in the final race. We’d made some changes to the car during the day as it had a lot of understeer and it was much better for race three. However, I think Matt [Neal] could see I was struggling a bit towards the end of the race and I made a mistake through Surtees and he was straight in there – he has that style and just flicked the mirror in on the way through! A podium would have capped it for us but we aimed to have two cars in the top ten and we managed that; it would have just been good to get one of them on the podium.
Andy had a good day, although he made a bit of a mistake in the first race and went through the gravel trap which left the guys with some work to do for race two. They said he drove really well in race three and diced with Jelley and beat him, so I’m happy with how it went. A lot of people have commented on how he drove during the weekend and he did the job I wanted him to do.
His lap-times were a bit ahead of me at times and when it was damp and we were on slicks, he was stunning. Maybe that is down to his Rallycross background, but he will only get faster and that’s the worry for me as far as family bragging rights go!
Until next time,
Mike
