Eurotech: Strong relationships.

Tuesday, 20th May 2008

In the latest John Guest Racing/Eurotech column on Crash.net, Carl Gray and Mike Jordan reflect on one of the most well known partnerships on the British motor sport scene.

We are sat here now talking about how we sponsored Combe and went here and did that, but how often do we sit here and enjoy what we’ve done? We don’t and I’m probably thinking about stuff more now when we’ve both had a hard day, but a good day.

Andy coming through has kept the whole thing fresh. When Mike finally does decide to hang up his helmet, I’m going to be quite upset really and quite cheesed off in a way, because he is right in saying that age is just a number and nothing more than that. If you got to the States, drivers have longer careers than they do in Europe, but I think Andy will go on and do well. He has a good future ahead of him and I think today has proven that even more than Donington Park did.

Crash.net:
How far do you think the Eurotech/John Guest relationship can go?

CG:
I think this year is a big year. To have to two cars in the 50th year of the BTCC, when Mike is 50 and Andy is 18, to have the first father and son team, to have a Sky TV series following them round, to have a new truck and new hospitality unit – the whole thing has grown. I think it will be quite hard to top that and I’m not sure, looking to 2009, how we top that. At the moment, I don’t have a clue!

Crash.net:
If you think you have the next Andy Priaulx on your hands, I suppose the only way is up really.

MJ:
It is. This year for me is difficult because I can’t switch off in the car from wanting to look after him as well. He is only 18 but he is a tough lad and I saw some of the moves he was pulling out there this afternoon. He won’t roll over for anyone but it is hard to concentrate as much as I want on my driving and run the team and look after Andy as well.
