All-in-all we come away from
Brands Hatch with a smile because we are learning about the suspension and the Dunlop guys couldn’t believe what my tyres were like towards the end of the weekend. After race one, they were a real mess, but they were starting to look like what they should look like by the end of the day – they are still a bit of a way off but they are better.
If only we had been in this position going into the Brands Hatch weekend rather than coming out of it. Our pre-season testing was a disaster, with snow and rain and hail. We also had a sponsor pulled out ten days before our pre-season testing started which put us on the back-foot a bit because we had to go on a cost-saving mission which meant we didn’t have the best start but we know we are at the back and have a mountain to climb.
The car can do it and I believe that I can do it – we just have to do it together. Mondello is going to be difficult for us, but we will be there and trying our best. I’ve had a lot of people who have called me to say ‘Go on Belly’ and ‘You’re not at the front yet but you’re there Kiddo, just try your best’ and that is what we are going to do. We have a bloody good team and by the middle of the year I think we can be regulars in the top ten.
