Prior to the weekend, I was one of the drivers to go to Diggerland to have a play around and it was great fun. I enjoyed it massively, especially beating
Colin Turkington. I couldn’t beat him on track here today but I could certaintly beat him in a digger! It’s good to promote the BTCC, which is arguably one of the biggest and most competitive series in Europe, with events like that and I think the proof of how popular it is in the size of the crowds at
Croft and the quality of racing throughout the programme. You can’t knock it and it is great value for money.
If you think about it, people pay £20 to go and watch a football match and it is over in 90 minutes but you can come to a BTCC meeting for the same price and it’s a full day of action. Then there are all the things that the teams give away and you see all the kids running round with caps and posters and it’s got to be good.
It boosts my own profile too but it is a massive leap when you are used to running at the front and now are running at the back. But nobody expects you do that well with it and hopefully we can creep up them and surprise them in the not too distant future.
Croft marks the half-way point of the season with five meetings done and five more to go and if I had to sum up the year so far I’d say it’s been difficult, maybe even heart-breaking at times. You come into the series thinking that the car will work for you but it’s only this weekend that we have finally got to grips with it and there is more to come. Up to this weekend we have been looking for two or three seconds and now we are only looking for half a second and that is reassuring.
