In his latest column for Crash.net, Martyn Bell looks back over the seventh round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton, and an eventful weekend for the Geoff Steel Racing team.
Qualifying went well for us at
Snetterton. The first eleven were covered by a second and then we were within a second or so of the next bunch after that. I was at the bottom of the second group – if that makes sense – but I knew that we are quick enough off the line to get a few places on top of that. We did a lot of laps in a good consistent time and if the rain came on race day then we felt we were in a good position.
We pulled away from the group I had been in and we have now latched onto the next group I need to fight with. It’s all confidence again, the car balance is good and, while I’d have been happier to be a few places further up, it’ll come and it was a waiting game for race day. We were struggling with straight line speed on the Revett Straight as I wasn’t getting the power on early enough at Sear which meant I was losing three or four mile per hour on the straight. It meant that me and Geoff had to head off in the rain on Saturday night for a walk of the circuit just to try and find out what I was doing wrong.
