Sunday arrived and it was a disappointing race day for us to be honest as it isn’t really where we want to be right now. The first race, we looked at the sky and thought we would be really smart and go for a full wet setting – well that was smart wasn’t it as it dried up a treat! We made a pig’s ear of that one but the car was sliding around all over the place as it would do with wet tyres on. Race two I got a cracking start but when I got to the first corner Pinkney was sideways in front of me and I had absolutely nowhere to go. I hit him and took the front corner of the Beemer and that was it for me – retirement on the spot. The recovery guys dropped us at the other side of the circuit and then they wouldn’t bring us back! They had to clear the track before they would help us out so the guys had about 55 minutes to sort the car out. They did a sterling job, we thought we’d have to start from the pitlane but they got me out onto the grid and that was really good.
We headed back to the garage with our tail between our legs and in race three, well it was better but, while the guys did a great job to get the car straight, it didn’t feel as good as it had done on Saturday afternoon. That might have been a psychological thing, but we caught and passed the Vauxhall with Erkut behind the wheel. I got caught up behind him for a few laps if I’m being honest and once you lose the back of the train at
Snetterton you can’t catch up again. Mike Jordan came up behind me with his headlights on and I though he was leading – so I bloody well pulled over to let him past! There was some miscommunication with the team, I should have radioed in and asked and they probably should have radioed back and told me so we had a discussion about it and sorted it out.
There is a three week break to the next round and I’m looking forward to
Knockhill, it always rains up there for a start, but it should be good. While you’re reading this, I’ll be off on holiday with the family as we’ve not been away together for a while so we’ve headed off for a few weeks and then I’ll come back refreshed and a stone overweight for the trip to Scotland.
