Colin Turkington has admitted that it will be emotional moment when he steps out of his Team RAC MG ZS for what could be the final time this weekend as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season comes to a close at Silverstone.

With the championship regulations changing in 2007 to Super 2000 rules, the BTC-spec MG will no longer be eligible for full title honours, with the West Surrey Racing run team likely to switch to new machinery for the new season.

Should that switch take place, it would end a successful partnership between Turkington and the car, having debuted in the BTCC at the wheel of a Team Atomic Kitten ZS back in 2002 before moving up the full MG squad alongside Anthony Reid and Warren Hughes a year later - taking his maiden BTCC win at Brands Hatch.

After a season away with Vauxhall last year, a return to the WSR squad has seen him fight for the title in 2006 – retaining the slenderest of chances going into the season finale – and he said he now wanted to send the MG out on a high.

“It only dawned on me the other day that this could be the last race for the MG in the series,” he told Crash.net Radio. “There has been no decision made about whether we will run these cars again next year, but I'd say it is more likely that we won't.

“[Because of that] I'd really like to send the MG out with a win. It came into the BTCC in 2001 and it has been a competitive car since then. I'll be sad to get out of the seat after the last race and it'll probably be quite emotional.”

Turkington also praised the WSR team that has run the MG with such success in recent seasons – with Turkington, Anthony Reid, Warren Hughes and Rob Collard all taking the car to the top step of the podium.
