Although his venerable MG ZS isn't getting any younger, Jason Hughes says he is confident of producing some solid performances during the 2007 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season.
The Kartworld Racing owner/driver will be at the wheel of the MG for a fourth season in 2007 and will have a team-mate for the first time in the shape of Fiona Leggate, who joins the team in a last minute deal to drive one of last seasons Team RAC machines.
“Fiona mentioned that she was talking to a couple of teams so I put a deal and a package together and it suited her,” Hughes explained to
Crash.net Radio. “Two heads work better than one but we have the edge as we have been with the car for the past few years and it might help her come along. We just have to see how it goes as the season progresses.”
With Team RAC having switched to Super 2000 BMWs for the new season, Kartworld will be flying the flag for MG enthusiasts this season, and will also be the only team to run on bio-ethanol having switched to alternative fuels mid-way through last season.
Although the MG is far from the most modern car on the grid, it should still be a strong machine during the coming season and Hughes added that he was looking for some solid results from 2007.
“As we have known the cars for a few years and know it is capable of being up there, that was why we stayed with it, as we can look at what is good and what is not amongst the new cars and maybe switch to S2000 for next season,” he said. “But we might as well stick with what we know and it should go well in the first few rounds, Brands and Rockingham for sure, and we know it goes well at places like
Knockhill.
"There are just a few circuits where it maybe isn't as good but we can get round that.”
