Fiona Leggate endured a difficult weekend as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship made its annual trip to
Croft as her quest for a problem free race day with the Kartworld Racing MG ZS was again thwarted.
After problems in practice, Leggate qualified in 20th place and, having been stuck behind the
BMW of Jim Pocklington in the early stages, finished the first race in 15th place. However, her chances of further improvement in the second race came to an abrupt end when John George dislodged the tyres at the chicane and Leggate was left with nowhere to go – leaving the MG damaged too much to allow her to continue.
Forced to start near the back of the field as a result for the final race, Leggate again found herself fighting dicing for position with Pocklington and dropped off the rear of the pack – eventually crossing the line in 13th place to cap a tough weekend.
"I've not had a particularly good weekend to be honest," she admitted to
Crash.net. "I've been off the pace all weekend, we had some problems in the opening free practice sessions and things have stemmed from there. I'm finding we have problems with the brakes at the moment and can't get the car stopped so at fast tracks I'm wary of the fact that I can't get he car stopped and am braking sooner than I need to. Hopefully we might do a test and sort it out so we can be more on the pace at
Oulton Park.
"I think we have been jinxed with bad luck this season. This weekend we finished two races but we haven't had a weekend yet where we have had three finishes and it's a shame. The second race here showed my luck as it was all due to the fact that there were tyres in the middle of the track. Because we were racing so close and there were no flags, I just went over them and did quite a lot of damage to the car and had to retire. I was hoping the bad luck would end this weekend but clearly it didn't do - so roll on Oulton Park!"
