Darren Turner moved to the head of the times in the second free practice session for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at
Knockhill, with the SEAT driver posting the quickest time of the weekend so far at wheel of his Leon.
After a light shower just prior to the start of the session, Turner posted a best time of 53.399secs which, for a while, looked like being the quickest lap by far as lay some four tenths of a second clear of the rest of the field. However, a quick lap near the end from local ace Gordon Shedden closed the gap significantly and, when the session drew to a close, Turner was just 0.006secs clear of the Halfords man.
Tom Chilton bounced back from a tough opening session to finish third for VX Racing, while
Tom Onslow-Cole continued to get to grips with the challenge of Knockhill in a rear-wheel drive car to post the fourth quickest time for Team RAC. Fabrizio Giovanardi and
Matt Neal completed the top six.
Colin Turkington was a solid seventh in the second RAC
BMW, while points leader
Jason Plato was just 0.001secs behind the Northern Irish ace. Showing how close the times were, under half a second split the top eight runners, with GR Asia pairing Adam Jones and Gavin Smith not much further behind.
Mat Jackson was eleventh ahead of Mike Jordan, Jason Hughes and John George, while BTC Racing managed to straighten out the Lexus of Chris Stockton to enable him to post the 15th quickest lap. Alan Taylor was 16th ahead of Martyn Bell – who managed just twelve laps with an over-heating engine. Fiona Leggate once again rounded out the field.
