Fabrizio Giovanardi says he is focused on the championship standings heading into the latest rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship later today.
Giovanardi will line up from fifth place on the grid, one place behind title rival
Jason Plato, after qualifying at the picturesque Scottish circuit, although he admitted after the session that he hadn't been too happy with how his Vectra had performed during the session.
To be honest I didn't feel confident in qualifying, he told
Crash.net. We worked on set-up in practice but didn't find the best for us so the SEATs start in front of us and Jason is just one place in front of me. However, I'm not worried as everything will happen at the first corner and I need to work on the set-up for the races.
Giovanardi added that he expected race day to be something of a challenge, with his focus being on managing the points gap to Plato ahead of the season finale at Thruxton next month.
At
Brands Hatch we won two races and this is another challenge for me, he said. I just have to manage the points between me and Jason going to Thruxton as our car will be strong.
If I can sign the results now, for me it will be ok to finish this weekend like I did at Brands Hatch and be four points behind Jason as he will have more weight for
Thruxton. I believe our car will be faster so I can win at the last part of the season.
