Darren Turner will start from pole position at
Knockhill after setting the pace during qualifying for the latest rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
The SEAT ace, who took pole earlier it the season at Rockingham, produced a stunning lap during qualifying to secure top spot, having earlier set the pace in the second free practice at the wheel of his Leon.
“The day has gone really well and the car has been good all day,” he told
Crash.net. “The first session we ran heavy to get a back-to-back with Jason and it was encouraging to see the pace that we were still there with a heavy car. In the second session we ran lighter to prepare for qualifying and I knew we'd have a real battle with Gordon but I didn't expect Colin to be as much of a threat. It's nice to be on the front row and nice to get another podium to add to the one at Rockingham.”
With the possibility of SEAT still being able to take three titles this season, Turner added he would be doing his best to pick up the maximum points possible from race day while also aiding Plato in his quest for the drivers title.
“For Jason, he needs to have a buffer to Giovanardi [heading to the finale] and for SEAT, we need to close the gap to Vauxhall or get a few extra points on them,” he said. “If all three titles are still to play for then it will make it much more interesting for the fans.
“Last year we ran well but I got unlucky with some penalties. This year I'm hoping to steer clear of those to get some good results It all depends where Jason is and if I can help him get some extra points over giovanardi then I will but not in a way that will compromise SEAT scoring more than Vauxhall. It's a balancing act and we need to see how it pans out.”
