"What was he doing – it was stupid" says Italian after opening race.

Fabrizio Giovanardi has blasted Tom Onslow-Cole after the coming together between the two in the opening race for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill.

The pair were running third and fourth in the closing stages of the 24 lap race, with Giovanardi's title rival Jason Plato in fifth, when Onslow-Cole dived down the inside of the Vectra going into Carlube for the penultimate time.

However, contact between the two saw Giovanardi tipped into a sideways moment that dropped him down to seventh place while Plato was able to pass Onslow-Cole to take third – with the result that the SEAT man has extended his lead to ten points going into the second race of the day.

"I made such a good race and I don't know why Onslow-Cole just ruined it," the Italian said after the race. "He tried to overtake me where it was impossible. It was just stupid.

"I'm playing for the championship and he isn't, so I don't know what he was doing."
