It didn't quite match the drama of race one, but that isn't something that will bother Darren Turner after the SEAT man took second win of the day in the 26th round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at
Knockhill.
Turner led from start to finish at the wheel of his Leon – now laden with maximum success ballast – while further down the order, Fabrizio Giovanardi took points out of
Jason Plato's lead in the standings, which had been opened up to eight points in the first race of the day.
Off the start, Turner made a good start to ensure he led the way into SEAT Curve for the first time from
Colin Turkington in the Team RAC
BMW. Plato had slotted into third, while a good start from Fabrizio Giovanardi meant he quickly latched onto the tail of the SEAT. Further down the order Gordon Shedden had made a good start in the Team Halfords Honda to jump up to seventh on the opening lap, with
Matt Neal making a good start in the sister car which had also been forced to start at the back after the race one retirement.
On lap two, Shedden battled past Mike Jordan to go sixth as the field settled down in the early laps, with the main position changes coming as Tom Chilton,
Mat Jackson and
Tom Onslow-Cole tried to work their way through from the rear of the field.
Giovanardi suffered a scare on the fourth lap when he ran wide through the gravel at Carlube although the Italian wouldn't lose any places. Soon however, he needed to raise his game as Shedden went fifth on lap seven and set about chasing down the Vectra, Adam Jones being the man demoted to sixth.
Shedden closed onto the rear of Giovanardi and on lap nine, he made contact with the rear of the Vauxhall at Scotsman although there was no damage down to either driver. However, it had clearly served as a warning to Giovanardi, who increased the pressure on Plato and slipped through into second on lap eleven – although Shedden would quickly follow him past the SEAT and Neal took Jordan for seventh.
