Team Halfords driver Gordon Shedden took a popular victory in the 27th round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at
Knockhill with the Scottish driver finally taking a win on home soil.
Shedden lead a 1-2 finish for the Team Dynamics run outfit with
Matt Neal second in the sister Honda Civic, while Jason Plato completed the podium to extend his lead over Fabrizio Giovanardi in the standings.
When the race kicked off, Mike Jordan made a fine start from pole position to lead the field into SEAT Curve, with Matt Neal jumping into second place past Adam Jones off the line, with Team Aircool man slotting into third.
By the end of the opening lap, the second Honda Civic was also on the move with Matt Neal breaking into the top four past
Jason Plato, with the points leader followed by rival Giovanardi, Turkington and
Mat Jackson to complete the top eight.
Jones was soon under pressure from the cars behind and on lap two he was overhauled by Shedden at Carlube for third and then came under pressure from both Giovanardi and Plato coming out of the Hairpin. Plato went to the outside to take fourth, while Giovanardi tried down the inside but was unable to pull past the SEAT and instead slotted into sixth as the field crossed the line.
On lap four, Jordan's defence of the lead came to an end as he lost top spot to Neal at Carlube, while Giovanardi's pressure on Jones paid off as he took fifth a lap later at the Hairpin.
Having lost the lead to Neal, Jordan was soon under pressure from behind by Shedden and on lap seven, both the second Honda and Plato were able to sneak through into second and third.
That put Jordan just ahead on track of Giovanardi, the man who had put him out of the lead of race three in the final race of the weekend at
Brands Hatch a fortnight. The pair were involved in contact on a number of occasions during the remainder of the race but Giovanardi was unable to find a way past and instead had to settle for fifth while Plato diced for victory out front.
