Paul O'Neill could be set for a return to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship after joining Motorbase Performance for a day testing at
Snetterton.
The former works Vauxhall driver took to the track in Norfolk in the car that started the season in the hands of Gareth Howell before he split with the team on the eve of the
Donington Park meeting.
Howell was replaced by Tom Ferrier - who drove the SEAT Toledo on its first appearance in the 2006 season finale - with the deal being on a race-by-race basis.
With O'Neill now having tested the car, he looks set to make a return to the BTCC for the first time since Finals Day twelve months ago, when he led in the Techspeed Astra Coupe after replacing Fiona Leggate for the final two meetings of the season.
O'Neill found himself without a drive again this season having lost a year of his career to diabetes, although he did line up against Ferrier in the British GT Championship at
Croft having taken up a one-off drive in a Team RPM Dodge Viper.
